Everything You Should Know About the New Millermatic 211 PRO

The Millermatic 211 is dead; long live the Millermatic 211 PRO. That’s right, possibly the best-selling MIG machine in history now has a successor. In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the new Millermatic 211 PRO, including its best features and improvements.

Feature Favorites

Grandpa always said, “A skunk always likes its own smell.” We’ve yet to understand what he meant. But Grandpa also said, “Don’t fix what ain’t broke.” Miller seems to have taken that to heart with the Millermatic 211 PRO. You’ll find every beloved feature from the original machine in this new model, only they’ve all been improved!

For instance, you’ve still got auto-set tech, which lets you bypass 95% of the hassle when setting up your machine. However, with the new PRO version, the auto-set has been drastically enhanced by a new 4.3” LCD screen. On the original Millermatic 211, the only controls you had were a couple of knobs that didn’t allow for more advanced functions. But with the new PRO, you get predefined weld settings to increase ease of use and help ensure you’ve always got the perfect parameters. The new screen also gives you graphic feedback of your situation’s recommended operating range. On top of that, the PRO has a new way to easily save and recall your favorite weld settings.

The new LCD screen also provides visual feedback to let you know if your machine has been set up properly. That includes gas detection to minimize all the frustration that can happen when you don’t realize your regulator isn’t set right and are trying to figure out why all your welds suck.

Miller’s Smooth Start feature is also here. This tech is why it’s so easy to begin welding with a Miller machine. The Millermatic 211 PRO also still has Auto Spool Gun Detect (automatically swaps settings between a MIG gun & a spool gun), MVP plugs (easily switch between 120- and 240-volt plugs), Fan-On-Demand (only noisy when it needs to be) and more.

Continually Upgradeable

Despite retaining all of the Millermatic 211’s best features, the new Millermatic 211 PRO is way more than the old model with a fresh coat of paint.

One of the biggest new features is something that’ll actually keep improving your machine for years and years to come. Modern welders have gotten so much more advanced than a few circuits and some gears. You’ve basically got a computer smarter than the original Saturn V rocketship in your welding machine these days. That means the software that runs your machine is just as important as the hardware.

With most welders, what you buy is what you get forever (including the software). Often as technology advances, your hardware may be up to snuff, but your software could be outdated. For some machines, you can get them updated at a certified repair location, but that’s often quite a hassle.

Miller has gone ahead and gotten rid of that headache by adding a USB port to the Millermatic 211 PRO. This lets you easily update your Millermatic 211 PRO’s internal software yourself.

So for example, Miller’s team is already working on a new software update that would let you Pulsed MIG weld with the Millermatic 211 PRO. That’s a huge deal for a machine at this price point and is ideal for welding aluminum and stainless steel.

The Miller team also has plans for future updates for a Modified Short Circuit (& Stitch) mode. This is ideal for welding at your own travel speed without blowing through thin gauge material. Along with that, there’s also upcoming arc & bead graphic feedback improvements and auto-set expanded functionality & accessibility.

Additional Improvements

Beyond the USB port and new LCD screen, the Millermatic 211 PRO also has other completely new changes compared to the original model. For instance, even though the Millermatic 211 PRO actually has more features than its predecessor, it weighs less. While it’s still rated for welding up to ⅜” material, the PRO version is also a little more powerful when using a 120-volt plug. With a normal socket, you have a range of between 30 and 140 amps (on a 240-volt plug, it’s between 30 and 230 amps). Generally, MIG welders don’t think about amps as much since you don’t have a setting for “Amperage” like TIG or stick, but the basic idea is that the more amps, the more power and the deeper penetration you're able to accomplish.
