Staff Spotlight: Ty’s Favorite Machine

Ty is a regional manager for our parent company Indiana Oxygen. He has over 15 years of experience dealing with just about everything you can imagine, and a few things you can’t. When he’s not solving welding-related problems for our customers, he can be found under the hood of one of the classic cars in his garage.

Freedom. That’s the big thing I look at in welding machines. Can it go where I need to go? Can it do what I need to do? The problem is that a lot of welding machines, especially ones you’d find at a big box store, sacrifice quality for freedom. It’s like choosing between a beautiful woman and a woman who enjoys welding, why can’t we have both? That’s why my favorite welder is the Millermatic 190. It gives me the freedom I need while still maintaining the high standards we’ve all come to expect from a Miller welding machine.

I don’t always weld in one spot, so having a ball and chain to drag me down isn’t an option. Clocking in at 55 pounds, the Millermatic 190 is so lightweight that I can bring it anywhere. I literally just throw it in the backseat of my truck and I’m off.

The 190’s small size comes from its inverter-based tech. This also makes its arc much more stable, so my weld’s quality stays consistent for the entire job. Another feature that really helps is the Auto-Set feature. For beginners and intermediate welders, this is a life saver. When I first started welding, 95% of my mistakes were from using improper parameters. Even now, having the machine automatically regulate itself to the right setting saves me a ton of time during set up.

So why’s the Millermatic 190 my favorite? It gives me freedom without sacrificing quality. Its user-friendly design means I spend less time dinking around with set-up task and most of my time actually welding. Check it out for yourself here. Also, make sure to let me know in the comments below what’s your favorite welder and why.
