Warm Weather Welding Project Ideas

Warm Weather Welding Project Ideas

With one of the coldest winters in recent history, outdoor welding over the last few months has been as fun as a sharp stick in the eye. Now that winter’s bitter grip is loosening, it’s time to throw open the workshop doors and start thinking about all those warm weather projects.

How all you need are a few ideas to get you started. Luckily for you, with our recent welding competition, welders from all around the country submitted their best projects. It’s a figurative treasure trove of great ideas. Here’s some of our favorite projects perfect for the early spring time.

Grills

Grills are harder than they look. And they don’t look easy. What type of design do you need to properly heat the whole steak evenly? What type of fuel will work best? But when done properly, one of these massive grills can make you the king of the BBQ. We’re talking about the moment you roll up to the tailgate with one of these meat machines and a tear comes to the eyes of every man, woman and child.

Home Improvement

Using your skills to give your home a unique, personal look can be one of the most rewarding projects you can do. Is your porch railing falling apart? Then rip it out and make your own. With a little planning, you can create an impressive outdoor home fixture that matches your experience level.

A Horse, of Course

Speaking of impressive outdoor fixtures, check out this piece created with recycled rebar. It’s incredible when you realize the time it takes to plan and execute every one of these welds individually and still have it come out resembling a horse.

Boat Trailers

Anyone who has looked at Kayak trailers will know they often cost more than most of us want to pay. Maybe it’s time to bring your workshop outside and build your own. A word of obviousness: Anytime you’re working on a project that needs to withstand the riggers of the road, make sure everything is secure. The last thing you want is to be held responsible for causing an automobile accident because your welds couldn’t hold up.

Could I Trouble You For a Smoker?

Similar to BBQs, fabricating a smoker is more than just the quality of your welds. It takes some real design work to create a masterpiece that smokes your food without making it taste like an ashtray. To put it in perspective, companies that fabricate professional smokers spend loads on testing and implementing their designs. It’s not an easy task, but well worth it if you’re up for the challenge.

…And Saw Mills?

Workshops are great for protecting your welds from the wind and other elements that can introduce contaminants, but sometimes projects are just too big to be worked on indoors. Spring’s a good time to take on those big projects like this towable sawmill frame which was designed with a storage cabinet to keep curious hands (or paws) out of harm’s way.

Hopefully you’ve now got enough inspiration to get your gears turning. But how will your equipment hold up?
